In every moment of the day we have choices about how to spend our time. A decision to not do something is as much a decision as to do something, and from all of these decisions flows our destiny!
One of the most valuable questions you can ask yourself regularly throughout your day then is "Does what I am (thinking of) doing right now really matter?" Of course, you will only be able to answer that question if you have some criteria you can use to make the assessment!
Many of us fall into the trap of prioritising based on what's important to the people around us - our boss, our clients, our family and friends - and not on what matters most to ourselves. And the net effect of that is that we end up chasing our tails, driven by the urgency of others' requests and demands. We are far less effective as a result and so not only do we not do ourselves justice under such circumstances but ironically we also prevent ourselves adding maximum value to those very same people.
So take a few minutes of your time now to really begin to think through what matters most to you, contributes most to your growth and expansion as a person, and supports you in making the difference in your world that you really want to make. The posts in the Targets and Talents sections of this blog will offer you a few thought-provoking questions as a good place to start. It could be the best investment you make all day...
"Things which matter most must never be at the mercy of things which matter least." Goethe
